A surfer was found 13 miles off the western coast of Scotland and is expected to make a full recovery. When Matthew Bryce was found he was conscious and breathing but severely hypothermic. Lifting him out of the ocean was a dangerous task but they got him into the helicopter and to Belfast Hospital in Northern Ireland. Bryce was able to survive due to his use of a thick wet suit that included boots and a hood. He also managed to stay on top of his board decreasing his exposure to the freezing water. Searching for Bryce was difficult because he was not said to be missing until twenty four hours after he entered the water, so determining a search area was difficult. Bryce was spotted by a helicopter shortly before dark.
